Can I Convert My Ukulele To A Left Handed Instrument?

Yes, a right handed ukulele can be converted rather easily to be left handed since the bridge isn’t set at an angle. Aside from replacing the strings for left-handed orientation (flipping the strings in a reverse order), the only modification that will need to be made for our soprano, concert and tenor ukes is to widen the second string nut slot to accept a C string. For our baritone Ukes, flip the strings again and this time file the new D and G nut slots (the wound strings) to fit the new string order. If you end up getting buzzing on the nylon strings in the old D and G nut slots it’s because they are too wide. To fix this you can file new grooves into the nut slots for the strings to sit properly, it doesn’t take too much filing for them to sit correctly. The other option would be to replace the nut, which is approximately 38mm wide. These modifications can be undone quite easily and does not void your instrument’s warranty.

Please note that the side dot position markers will be facing away from view after this modification has been done. For some players this is a major disadvantage but for others it may not be an issue.
